Week 4! None of us thought that this newsletter would go on this long, but here we go. Quarce more unto the breach. We got some actual stories this week so no need for a historical article (thank heavens for that).
Koroshi Means Courage
In a shocking turn of events, Koroshi and Woot founder Wichita has seemingly cashed out all his holdings and left crypto. He hasn’t tweeted in two months after launching his Woot token, but has been seen liquidating his Koroshi and Woot holdings (amongst other things). I think most sensible people had no faith in him by this point anyway, but it is fun to get some dunks in.
My first experience with Wichita/Koroshi was when he was pushing obvious AI slop for Koroshi’s art. When questioned about this, he would repeatedly say it was not AI and in fact hand-drawn by him and that’s why it was taking so long. He and his team fired back at me when I may have been SLIGHTLY antagonistic about this in an interview with him in my Discord. I don’t like misleading people, and would have been happy to let it go if he didn’t just continue lying. Between this and saying that the project would be sponsored by the French government (???) I have been fading his work for quite some time now.
My next encounter with him was of course as King Fumble on the Ketboard. I found it hilarious that he almost immediately dumped his KET bag for a profit so that he could pay for things like “Koroshi House” at AVAX Summit in an attempt to gain some credibility. Dumping on the community right before asking them to buy your NFTs is a bold move, I’ll give him that. And it worked! People bought them anyway! Maybe he wouldn’t have needed to sell all his Koroshi for $10 each if he had just held KET even 24 hours longer. Unlucky! Or shall I say, quelle malchance 🇫🇷
Next of course he somehow managed to raise funds for a token launch. It went horribly (shocking again, I know) as presalers were at a loss right from the get-go. I’m also told that before the launch he was reaching out to people to borrow money? There’s not much more to say, but I’ll leave you with this hilariously bad OTC presale offer. Nothing like hard-capped upside, am I right?
Jesus is Crucified
Everyone’s favorite mercenary KOL made an incredibly ill-advised tweet about how AVAX pays him for no reason. He deleted the tweet shortly after, but our reporters have screenshotted it for your viewing pleasure. There are lots of fun reasons why he may have deleted it. AVAX could have asked him to take it down, one of his other “sponsors” could have been offended, or maybe he just was too bullied in the replies (spoiler alert: AVAX CT does not like him). Editor’s note: His contract with AVAX has ended. Interesting timing!
Either way, he seems to have moved on to more well-paying pastures. To be fair, he is literally the only person I’ve ever heard mention HBAR. Actually that’s not true, remember that Echelon guy? Maybe he went there. Seems like they’ve put together a stellar team! Guess we will find out if all publicity is good publicity.
This Jesus situation combined with ZachXBT’s release of a promotional tweet payment list has pushed paid KOLs to the forefront. We already discussed this a bit in Week 2 but it seems to still be relevant! AVAX of course pays people, one of which was apparently Jesus. I’m sure they have some metrics to decide who is worth keeping on the payroll, but I would also guess that it’s very hard to judge how much value you’re getting out of a KOL.
I don’t usually agree with who they pay (or who they appear to pay anyway, I don’t know for sure), but I do recognize that it’s a hard problem. Personally I would lean towards paying more small or medium sized AVAX community people. Getting the core members of the community pushing hard for you and having a good time (think KET era) could be better marketing than paying a larger, likely botted multi-chain creator—but again, it’s hard to value a KOL. Why would they pay someone like me when I already write these dumb weekly articles and tweet about AVAX for free? What am I gonna do, write about Base??? Seems like a waste of money, maybe Jesus is a better place to spend money after all.
With the hiring of Voh and her push to hire more of her friends, it seems management is taking the large multi-chain KOL approach. It will be nice to have more people talking about AVAX and I’m excited to see how this plays out. It’s easy to sit back and play armchair QB—like I said before, I have no idea how to value having these accounts on payroll. I hope Voh and her friends come here, tweet endlessly about AVAX, and this gives us the juice we need to break past the final boss of $27.
Launchpads for Everyone
In a classic instance of “how far can we actually push this joke,” friends of the Lore Dump TR and VQ unveiled their launchpad launcher. This was the natural progression of technology as launchpads have become so prevalent—it was only a matter of time before someone built this.
They launched the launchpad launcher while I was asleep (damn you, Asia timezone) so I didn’t get a live view of the release but it seems like it was well received. Another friend of the Lore Dump, Smudge, was one of the first to launch his own launchpad and has already (rightly) been accused of rugging! Marvelous.
This is a great opportunity for everyone to go out and launch their own launchpad! For the low low price of one AVAX, you can be a more successful launchpad founder than CryptoFish!
That’s all the lore I’ve got for this week! It’s nice to have things to talk about again. The historical article last week was nice, but it’s mostly rehashing events that everyone already knows. I prefer current events! See you again in Week 5, and happy NFL season to all who celebrate!
